Thanksgiving Service for Brisbane Taiwanese Uniting Church
Rev Ben Lo and his congregation observed a day of thanksgiving on Sunday 15th November to mark its 19th anniversary of the church. Rev Lo said ” Our church is growing in numbers and we might need a bigger space to cater for this growth”. A youth gave a moving testimony of how he was saved from near death after a fatal accident . He said the Lord’s hand was with him and he lives to tell of how great God is to him and what God can do for those that have faith in him. An elderly lady in her 80’s also spoke of how she has watch the church grow over the years and she lives to praise the Lord for it. Rev Ross Mackay brought greetings on behalf of Rev Gwen Fisher, Presbytery Minister of South Moreton. And Rev Leva Pat brought greetings on behalf of MCC and Knox Unitng Church. Thirteen members of Knox Uniting Church attended the service including one of the UCA’s prominent retired Minister’s Rev John Hooper.

The Logan Central Multicultural Congregation of the Uniting Church continues to welcome more refugees, especially 45 recent arrivals from Burma. Mrs Gwen Rowe, the Secretary of the church and also the member of MCC committee said the Burmese were integrated into the multicultural Sunday morning service and hold their own language meeting once a month. She said the local congregation was helping with transportation to services and setting up computers for the families. The teenagers group regularly sings in the services. On other news she said the Combined Youth Happenings have commenced once a month led by the 2nd Generation youth and young adults.

On Saturday the 20th September 2008, the Uniting Church Second Generation Multicultural Committee of the Queensland Synod has organised a Family Fun Day with the objective to unify the various youth and young adult groups within the UCA Brisbane Congregations. The event will be held at Toowong Primary School, Sylvan Road, Toowong from 9 am to 3.30pm. The overall purpose of this program is to encourage and exhort the multi-Cross Cultural youth in the Uniting church of Queensland. In order to make this a successful event various activities will be taking place during the course of the day with the aim of breaking barriers and the hope of building new relationships and developing greater networking for the betterment of God’s church. The day is open to all UCA youth and young adults and anyone young at heart, a program of UCA QLD Synod.
